Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Executive remains committed to consolidating the liberalization of the broadband market, promoting competition and encouraging the sharing of electronic communications infrastructures.

The position was reiterated this Tuesday, in Luanda, by the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Information Technologies, Pascoal Fernandes, at the opening of the third edition of the Angola Digital Forum (ADF), held under the motto “Digital transformation and sustainability”.

According to him, the commitment will maximize efficiency in the implementation of networks, reduce costs and eliminate barriers to the entry of new players into the market.

He mentioned that the implementation of digital inclusion infrastructure based on a national broadband network is one of the Executive’s commitments to the development of the information and knowledge society.

He said that the construction of 1,980 kilometers of optical fiber is planned, as well as the implementation of the “national cloud” infrastructure platform, to promote interaction between the various public administration bodies in the secure sharing of information from institutions and citizens..

The Secretary of State defended, however, the continuity of national and foreign investment in telecommunications infrastructures, with a view to increasing and improving the quality and access to digital services.

He considered it imperative to recognize the relevance of digital transformation in promoting social development and economic prosperity.

In this sense, he stressed, the Executive understands that it is necessary to establish a robust and resilient telecommunications/ICT infrastructure, guaranteeing universal access to broadband services for the population.

He recalled that the Government launched in public consultation, through the supervisory ministry, the proposal for the white paper on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for the period 2023/2027, which, among other measures, outlines policies and strategic actions to the sustainable development of the ICT sector.

According to him, the approval of this document will unequivocally be a guiding policy framework for the digital transformation strategies of the country’s various economic and social sectors.

The director of the IT Portal, Seidou Ndolumingo, considered that the world is constantly evolving, driven by technological advances that have transformed the way we live, work and connect.

In his opinion, digital transformation, a global phenomenon, is redefining industries and shaping new forms of social interaction.

“While we celebrate the innovations brought about by the digital revolution, we also face urgent challenges related to environmental sustainability,” he said.

The Angola Digital Forum (ADF) is an innovative and transformative event, with the main objective of bringing together leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs and enthusiasts in the areas of digital transformation and sustainability for a collaborative immersion.

The event addresses questions about the “frontiers” of technology and explores how it can be effectively applied to drive sustainable practices across various sectors, aiming to inspire tangible actions, promote awareness and foster collaborations that lead to a more responsible future.

Companies from the telecommunications, technology, finance, energy, industry, oil and gas sectors participate.

Aspects linked to the importance, role, challenges, opportunities and solutions of joining the frontiers of digital transformation, sustainability and consequent sustainable development in Angola were also discussed at the forum.
