Africa-Press – Angola. The Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women’s Promotion (MASFAMU) registered 538 displaced families in Benguela on Wednesday, following the overflowing of the Cavaco River.

A note sent states that the registered families are being integrated into an accelerated registration process in the Integrated Social Action Management System (SIGAS), as part of the emergency response to the floods that affected the region.

It added that the action is part of the government’s intervention plan to mitigate the impacts of the calamity, ensuring structured social assistance guided by concrete data on the needs of the affected populations.

MASFAMU said it reinforced operational and response capacity, ensuring greater efficiency in the distribution of essential goods, food support, and social assistance to affected families, which will be carried out after the registration process is completed.

As a result of the flooding of the Cavaco River in Benguela, 18 people died, 11 are reported missing, 3,624 were evacuated from at-risk areas, 451 homes collapsed, and 1,502 people were stranded.
