Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan short film “O Poder”, registered in the Latin American film festival “Latin American Film Festival in Native Languages”, premiered, on Friday, in the city of Huambo, in a session well attended by the public.

Co-authored by Angolan director António Guimarães and producer TP Films, the short film, shown in the auditorium of the Journalist Training Center (CEFOJOR), on the outskirts of the city of Huambo, features 25 Angolan, Portuguese and Cuban actors, including extras and main cast.

The Latin American short film festival, “Latin American Film Festival in Native Languages”, in which the Angolan film “O Poder” is registered, will take place from the 15th to the 20th of April in Peru.

António Guimarães said that the short film, written and recorded last February, in the city of Huambo, results from the need to internationalize Angolan cinema.

He explained that the action film narrates a social critique that discourages drug use and violence on a national and international level.

The director argued that it is time for Angolan cinema to start being produced with more quality and investment, in order to attract the participation of international actors in the country.

The deputy director of CEFOJOR, José Caculo, informed that the center will, in the next few days, begin providing various training courses in the area of social communication, which includes cinema, to fulfill the dream of many young Angolans who wish to be actors and filmmakers.

He said it was CEFOJOR’s intention to promote the release of films, series, national documentaries and other audiovisual products with Angolan actors.

The cinematographic journey of young António Guimarães and his producer Tp Films began in 2015, with the first project entitled “Fantasma de Abena”. In 2017, the film “We Diabolical” and “Born in the Dark” followed in 2019.

One of his most important works “Where is God” was released in 2023, whose official release was extended by Netflix to this year.
