Africa-Press – Angola. The first phase of construction work at the Cabinda Refinery ends in December 2024, revealed this Monday the general director of the company responsible for the project, GEMCORP, Marcus Weyll.
The director announced the fact at the end of a visit by the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, to the refinery’s construction works.
Marcus Weyll explained that the works of the first phase are 39.49 percent physically completed and 100 percent financially completed.
He added that all the equipment is already on site (Malembo Plain), as well as seven (7) of the 18 planned reservoir tanks have already been built.
During the visit to the site, Minister Diamantino Azevedo considered it important to comply with the project’s implementation schedule, which includes the recruitment of personnel and training of technicians.
The first phase of the Cabinda Refinery envisages the construction of a crude oil distillation unit with capacity for 30 thousand barrels of crude per day and with the specificity of not burning gas, being one of the first in Africa with this characteristic.
For the construction, assembly and operationalization of the refinery, 1,500 jobs are guaranteed, most of which go to local young people.
In this phase, more than 930 direct and indirect jobs were created, 93 percent of which are employees from the province of Cabinda.
The factory will have a processing capacity of 60 thousand barrels/day when fully operational.
