Foreign investors and tourists evaluate the potential of the Okavango region

Africa-Press – Angola. A delegation made up of 13 tour operators, investors and foreign journalists from France, Italy and Spain has been seeing since Friday, in the municipalities of Dirico and Rivungo, province of Cuando Cubango, the potential of the Angolan region of Okavango.

The itinerary, which will mainly cover the Luengue-Luiana National Park, aims to promote tourism and identify possible business opportunities and attract more investors.

The coordinator of the delegation of investors, Miquel Ribes, said shortly after arriving at the Luengue-Luiana national park, that they intend to learn about the reality of the fauna, flora and culture of the Angolan region of Okavango and evaluate how to promote the aforementioned potential with the partnership of the National Agency for the Management of the Okavango Region (ANAGERO).

Miquel Ribes guaranteed that after realizing the potential that the region offers, they will continue to maintain contact with ANAGERO, to attract tourists.

He said that through his travel agency, called KANANGA, based in Barcelona (Spain), he will promote the tourist potential of the Angolan region of Okavango, to attract tourists and potential investors.

“It is very important for us to get to know the Angolan region of Okavango, as it is potentially rich in biodiversity”, he said.

He added that to do so it was necessary to make a great effort to leave Spain for Angola, specifically in the municipality of Rivungo, province of Cuando Cubango.

One of the members of the caravan, Xavier Aldekoa, journalist for the Spanish newspaper “La Vanguardia” and National Geographic, said he was happy to be in Angola for the second time with the responsibility of promoting tourism and biodiversity potential across borders.

Xavier Aldekoa highlighted that this opportunity is unique to discover and publicize Angola’s potential as it has not been practically explored, which arouses real curiosity on the part of any tourist or tour operators.

Promotion of tourist activity

ANAGERO’s technical administrator, Dikla Kiala, explained to that the group of tour operators and potential investors will enter Angolan territory by road through the Bwabwata border, in the municipality of Dirico (Cuando Cubango) and will follow the tourist route cross-border route that connects the main tourist areas of Bwabwata (Dirico), Jamba, Benorio, Boa Fé and Bico de Angola (Rivungo).

Tour operators and potential investors particularly want to realize their dream of visiting the Angolan component of the Okavango/Zambezi (KAZA) project, considered by many to be nature’s best kept secret in terms of wildlife.

“The intention is to establish a partnership with the National Agency for the Management of the Angolan Region of Okavango, to promote tourist visits in our region of the KAZA project”, said Dikla Kiala.

The Angolan region of Okavango represents the greatest tourism potential and has aroused the interest of tour operators and potential investors who wish to discover the potential and business opportunities.

Dikila Kiala considered that these visits by potential investors are synonymous with the great interest of the regional tourist market in the Angolan component of the Okavango, because many tourists are eager to discover new tourist attractions and beyond, which the Angolan part currently offers.

He announced that in the near future, the Angolan region of Okavango will gain several foreign investments. Adding that, at this point, six investors have already shown interest in investing in the area, mainly in the tourism and agribusiness sectors.

“We have received many requests from national and foreign tourists who wish to invest in the Angolan region of Okavango, so that it can stand on an equal footing with other countries that are part of the Okavango/Zambezi project, namely Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia ”, he highlighted.

Border posts

He also made it known that there is already a bilateral Angola-Namibia commission that is dealing with the construction of four Border Posts in the Okavango Region, namely Bwabwata, Bico de Angola, Mucusso and Dirico.

He explained that the construction of the aforementioned border posts is the sine qua nom for taking advantage of the entire tourist potential of the region, because it will allow international tourists to travel between Angola and Namibia without the need for a special authorization as is currently the case.
