Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) agreed to reinforce security measures along the common border and create a reference mechanism for the protection of victims of human trafficking in both countries.
As recomendações vêm expressas no comunicado final do Fórum Transfronteiriço sobre Fluxo Migratório, realizado no Dundo, província angolana da Lunda Norte, numa iniciativa do Ministério da Justiça e dos Direitos Humanos em parceria com a Organização Internacional para as Migrações (IOM) e a Embaixada da RDC em Angola.
O evento recomendou, igualmente, a institucionalização de um “Fórum Regional Transfronteiriço ” anual e a criação de um grupo técnico com a missão de detectar eventuais casos relacionados com o tráfico de pessoas, o reforço do sistema de controlo documental e a protecção da criança na fronteira comum.
The participants defended the resumption of the process of re-registration of immigrants from both countries, to better verify the flow, including raising awareness and daily surveillance among children and adults in peripheral areas and holding the forum in the two countries alternately, with the aim of to improve the exchange of information on the promotion and dissemination of human rights.
During the event, the authorities of the DRC proposed to work towards the formation of mixed teams for surveillance at the borders, inventory of clandestine crossing routes, preparation of a map according to the length of the border, training of agents of various services of security and Border Guard, for the effective fight against human trafficking.
The RDC assured that it will establish a permanent consultation framework between both countries through the Migration Services and Border Guard Police, study the possibility of implementing a manual of procedure regarding cases of detention of illegal immigrants, repatriations, returns and trafficking of human beings that can be overseen by a specific working group.
The forum, held from 30 to 31 March, was attended by staff from the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, the Ministry of the Interior, the DRC Embassy in Angola, civil society and local human rights committees.
The meeting was part of the implementation plan of the national human rights strategy, to combat human trafficking and the Angola-IOM joint project, financed by the United States of America.
