Africa-Press – Angola. The works and achievements of António Agostinho Neto, the first President of Angola, were remembered yesterday in Cabinda by the deputy governor for the Economic and Productive Sector, Romão Macário Lembe.

Speaking at a lecture on “António Agostinho Neto, Patriotism and Nation”, promoted by the provincial government, on the occasion of 17 September, National Hero’s Day, he said that the leader “was a true patriot of unusual qualities, a politician convinced of his ideas and who has always put the Nation’s best interests first.

He underlined that António Agostinho Neto’s determination was fundamental for the conquest of National Independence and in carrying out a remarkable diplomatic work that resulted in the establishment of friendship and international cooperation relations between Angolans and the peoples of the world.

The deputy governor of Cabinda highlighted Neto’s continuous vision of serving as a strategic guide for achieving the purposes that enshrine the paths for the country’s sustainable development.

In turn, José Daniel Pemo, who also made some remarks in the lecture on behalf of the “greatest poet”, stressed that the founder of the Angolan Nation was already thinking “of a new economic, political and social order that all African States should ending all forms of discrimination and neocolonialism”.

Members of the Government, representatives of Defense, Security and Internal Order bodies, former combatants and veterans of the country, teachers, students from different levels of education, traditional and religious authorities participated in the lecture.

The National Hero’s Day festivities program includes, among other activities, the holding of lectures in favor of the figure of Agostinho Neto and the laying of a wreath of flowers next to his bust, erected in front of the headquarters of the Government Secretariats of the Province of Cabinda.
