Africa-Press – Angola. Four hundred exhibitors, from the four municipalities of the province of Cabinda, participate in the II edition of the Banana and Cassava Fair, which kicked off on Thursday, as part of a promotion by the Provincial Secretariat for Integrated Economic Development.
For three days, the showcase, which takes place under the motto “Fostering production to diversify exports”, aims to facilitate peasants and farmers in the region to sell their rural products.
At the opening ceremony, the Provincial Secretary for Integrated Economic Development in Cabinda, Cândida dos Santos, highlighted that the motto chosen for this edition actually reflects the Government’s ongoing concern regarding measures and policies for the diversification of the economy.
“Identifying the productive potential of banana and cassava crops, promoting their increase, capable of structuring a value chain for those looking for healthy foods, is a global trend”, he asserted.
For his part, the vice-governor of Cabinda, for the Technical Sector and Infrastructures, Agostinho da Silva, representing the governor of Cabinda Mara Quiosa, highlighted that it is opportune to hold the banana and cassava fairs, at a time when that the Angolan Executive approved the National Development Plan (PDN) for 2023-2027, which among other objectives envisages the diversification of the sustainable economy with many central axes.
He also added that this event reveals the strength of the people of Cabinda who invest in agricultural production and present satisfactory results.
The exhibition is on display at the Cabassango market, on the outskirts of the city of Cabinda, and which also features, for the first time, the presence of stallholders from the provinces of Cuanza-Sul and Zaire.
This second edition is expected to raise more than 52 million kwanzas.
In the first edition, held in July this year, the exhibition raised more than 45 million kwanzas, with the participation of 400 exhibitors.
