Africa-Press – Angola. The Global Infrastructure Investment Project, a G7 initiative, also includes the promotion of agriculture, clean and renewable energy, among other areas to be developed within the scope of the Lobito Corridor, Tuesday.
This is a program created in 2022, by the G7 Group, with the aim of raising 600 billion dollars to be invested in countries with developing economies.
Speaking to the press, in the province of Benguela, the representative of the American Administration, Danae Pauli, informed that food security is a priority for President Biden and that this is one of the reasons why this sector and agribusiness are central points of the initiative from PGI.
He recalled that the Lobito Corridor is among the priorities of the aforementioned program, for which an investment of one billion dollars was already announced last year by the American President, Joe Biden, with a view to connecting Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Zambia and, later, connect the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean.
“Part of this amount will finance the railway section from Luacano to Jimbe, in the Angolan province of Moxico, near the border with Zambia”, he explained.
According to a senior Biden Administration official, an event was held in Lusaka (Zambia) last week with around 400 investors related to the Lobito Corridor, which was “very well attended and applauded”.
The American delegation, accompanied by the Angolan ambassador to the United States, Agostinho Van Dúnem, visited the infrastructures of the Lobito Corridor, namely Porto, where they contacted partners linked to the terminals, namely Lobito Atlantic Railway and Africa Global Logistics, and the Caminho de Ferro de Benguela (CFB), to help promote agriculture programs and connect small and large producers.
At Grupo Carrinho, one of the companies that also seeks American investment to increase its capacity, the delegation visited some of the seventeen factories in the industrial complex, with emphasis on the biscuit factory, the sugar refinery, vegetable oil, as well as the physical laboratory- chemistry and microbiology, to receive information about its operation.
The works carried out in the expansion area of the complex, called phase 2, where new infrastructures are being built, as well as some corn cultivation fields, in Dombe Grande, commune of Baía Farta, 60 kilometers from the city, were also appreciated. from Benguela.
The G7 is an informal group that brings together some of the world’s main economies and, as its name suggests, is made up of seven countries: Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom.
It was created in the middle of the second half of the 20th century as a space for discussing global economic problems. Currently, the G7 also has the role of debating political, military and environmental issues. In addition to seven countries, the G7 also has the participation of the European Union.
The G7 holds annual meetings with the purpose of discussing and making important decisions in the areas of economy, global social problems, military issues and conflicts, the environment, international politics, international trade, among others.
