General Hospital gives new impetus to clinical care

Africa-Press – Angola. The first General Hospital and a Regional Medicines Depot came into service on Thursday in the municipality of Baía Farta, Benguela province, after being inaugurated by the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta.

The hospital, with works budgeted at 1,112,286,476.56 kwanzas, has operating room services, with high capacity for different surgeries, Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Traumatology, Maxillofacial, Imaging, Intensive Care, Hemotherapy, among others.

The Regional Medicines Depot, duly equipped with different types of drugs, is a project budgeted at around one billion, an amount invested both in construction and in equipping.

The Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, explained that the institution is a second level special care unit. For this reason, despite being in the municipality, it has all the capacity, with its registration in the Diário da República, for a General Hospital.

For the minister, the start-up of this clinical unit will help decongest the Hospital Geral de Benguela, from a surgical point of view, especially in elective surgeries that are overdue.

As for the delay in opening the unit, Sílvia Lutucuta stressed that the situation was due to the actual completion of the hospital, which involved reinforcing the conditions for equipping the different areas of specialization, with a view to providing better services.
She cited examples from the area of Radiology, where it was necessary to crush the walls, place modern equipment, as well as the laboratory, laundry, sterilization, which required some interventions.

In search of progress

The governor of Benguela, Luís Nunes, stressed that the municipality of Baía Farta and the province as a whole should be proud of the emergence of the two projects, as they will certainly reinforce Benguela’s capacity in terms of medical and drug care concerns.

Luís Nunes assured that the Government, in the heat of the 4th of February, which gave rise to National Independence, will firmly continue the journey that leads to the achievement of several achievements of sustainable development of the population.

In this context, the governor underlined that there are several projects to achieve this goal, such as the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM) and the Integrated Program for Local Development and Combating Poverty, which have enabled actions to be taken around satisfaction of the population’s needs.

The governor announced that more developments will be inaugurated soon.
