German President to Visit Angola Next Week

Africa-Press – Angola. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will undertake an official visit to Angola from November 4th to 6th, at the invitation of Angolan Head of State João Lourenço, to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Strengthening the friendly relations and cooperation between Angola and Germany will be central to the agenda of this trip, which includes official meetings at the Presidential Palace in Luanda, as well as visits to institutions and ongoing cooperation projects.

The two Heads of State are expected to discuss deepening the partnership in the sectors of energy, infrastructure, technical and vocational training, technological innovation, and green hydrogen – areas in which Germany has been actively cooperating with the Angolan state.Angola and Germany established diplomatic relations in 1979.

The two countries have projects focused on the areas of infrastructure construction for electricity production, the pharmaceutical industry, and hospital construction and management.

In 2011, they created the Bilateral Commission, within the framework of the “Joint Declaration of Intentions”.

This is a platform for exchanging general opinions on bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest, responsible for evaluating the development of cooperation.

According to available data, the volume of bilateral trade reached approximately €640 million in 2023, of which €282 million corresponded to German exports to Angola and €356 million to imports from Angola, mainly oil and minerals.

In the energy sector, the “H2-Diplo” Joint Green Hydrogen Project, launched in 2022, stands out, aiming to support the sustainable production, use, and export of hydrogen between the two countries.

In the technical and vocational training sector, cooperation includes support from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), which has been working on the training of Angolan technicians, curriculum development, and modernization of training centers.

Germany has also supported Angola in its economic diversification and industrial modernization efforts, as well as in promoting business partnerships and technology transfer.
