Africa-Press – Angola. The vice-governor for technical services and infrastructure of Lunda Norte, Domingos Dala, appealed this Monday to local businesspeople to invest in the creation of arts schools, for the training of artists, especially those linked to dance, music and craftsmanship.
The official made this appeal during the closing of the first edition of the Festival of Traditions, highlighting that the creation of arts schools in the province will contribute to the preservation of the province’s cultural heritage and the professionalization of many talented young people.
He assured that the local Government is interested in supporting such initiatives, so that the cultural richness of Lunda Norte perpetuates and is transmitted to the new generation.
On the other hand, he recommended to the Provincial Culture Office to carry out campaigns to collect the museum fund to increase the Dundo Museum’s collection, as well as the oral tradition still to be explored or to be confirmed with data already collected.
“This work must involve everyone’s engagement, with emphasis on our elders, traditional authorities, scientific and cultural researchers, among others”, he stressed.
According to Domingos Dala, the uses and customs of the region, combined with the concept of authenticity, should be structuring elements of Lunda Norte’s tourist offer.
For the person responsible, culture must be a distinctive fact in the construction of citizenship, for the evolution of mentalities and the consolidation of citizens’ civic consciousness.
During the festival, which lasted three days, rituals such as supplications and offerings to Nzambi Kalunga (gods), txiphwya (pilgrimage), Mukanda and cikumbi (male and female initiation), among others, were performed. Demonstrations were also made of marriage and reception ceremonies, regional costumes, signs of the “Sona” communicative code, traditional games, the form of hospitality and traditional power.
The dances, sessions of Cokwe stories and proverbs and the musical show, where the highlight will be the performance of the musician Santos Católica, marked the first edition of the festival.
The festival is part of the memorandum of understanding signed between Fundação Brilhante (FB), the social face of the diamond subsector, and the local government in the field of culture and arts, and aims to encourage artists to continue preserving and researching more about the habits and customs of the region.
