Government denounces vandalization of the perimeter of Uíge airport

Africa-Press – Angola. The Provincial Government of Uíge denounced, this Tuesday, the existence of citizens involved in acts of vandalization of the internal perimeter of Manuel Quarta Punza Airport, for the practice of agricultural activity.

According to a statement from the local Provincial Government, sent this Wednesday, it also refers to the vandalization of instruments to support air navigation in that airport infrastructure.

In light of what happened, the Provincial Government of Uíge appeals to the population whose crops still remain intact on the site and who insist on cultivating in the area, to remove all plantations, within four days, due to the fact that they have already benefited from a 15-day moratorium.

“Those responsible for the aforementioned practices must, before the announced deadline, carry out mandatory compliance with the statement, as agricultural practices constitute threats, which could result in dangers of various types in the airport facilities and normal air navigation”, it reads in the statement.

The document also indicates if this procedure is not followed, within the stipulated deadlines and conditions, the offenders will be held civilly and criminally responsible for the violation of the aforementioned perimeter, as well as the removal and destruction of the aforementioned products in a coercive manner by the competent bodies.

The director of Uíge Airport, Alfredo Luemba, explained that the areas of the villages of Cabonda, Quilevo and Paco e Benze, areas bordering the Manuel Quarta Punza airport space, were invaded.

Built between 1966 and 1967, Uíge airport, located in the main municipality, was rehabilitated in 2014 and is capable of receiving Boeing 737/700 type aircraft and other smaller flights. The infrastructure has a runway measuring two thousand 370 meters long and 45 meters wide.
