Government does not give up on school hotel project in Benguela

Africa-Press – Angola. The director of the Provincial Office of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports, Rosália Tchitale, admits that the government still maintains the hotel-school project in Benguela, with a view to training professionals in this field.

The guarantee was given on Friday on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Flow Hotel, under the management of the company OnTour, one of the hotel units of the Institute of Tourist Promotion (Infotur), designed to house the Regional Technical School of Hospitality and Tourism, which is not accomplished.

Despite the privatization of this hotel from the Infotur network, for a period of 12 years, the person responsible clarified, however, that there are (alternative) projects so that Benguela will have a hotel school.

According to Rosália Tchitale, the authorities are working and discussing the matter with Infotur, as there is a need for a hotel teaching establishment in the province of Benguela.

Without advancing a time horizon, the director of that office believes that, in the near future, the dream of a school hotel in Benguela could be a reality.

But he argued that it is necessary, first, to prepare things, “so that one day we will have a hotel training school”.

As Benguela is the second tourist destination in the country, after Luanda, which receives many tourists annually, Rosália Tchitale confirms that the hotel park needs a teaching hotel.

Optimistic hoteliers

In reaction, the former president of the Hotel and Tourism Association, Jorge Gabriel, praises the renovation of the Infotur de Benguela hotel for leisure and business tourism.

However, he said that it would be a benefit for the class to have the province of Benguela as the pioneer of the first Regional Technical School of Hospitality and Tourism, which would serve the provinces in the center and south of the country.

According to him, the provision of excellent services in large hotels necessarily involves capable professionals, with basic, secondary and higher education.

On the other hand, he says he is aware that the Provincial Government of Benguela is reviewing the use of another project launched years ago by the Sovereign Fund to open a higher education institution in the hotel sector.

Jorge Gabriel calls for hoteliers to combine synergies, so that basic, secondary and higher education schools can be created in Benguela.

A School Hotel is a hotel unit owned and/or managed by a hospitality teaching establishment, which aims to provide excellent training for great kitchen, restaurant and bar professionals in a real work context.
