Government finds solution for water replenishment

Africa-Press – Angola. The vice-governor for Technical Services and Infrastructures of Cunene, António Matias, guaranteed this Wednesday, in the municipality of Ombadja, that a solution had been found for the normal replenishment of drinking water for the population.

In the last 15 days, the towns of Ondjiva, Môngua Bulunganga, Anyanca, Namacunde, Santa-Clara and Humbe have been deprived of water supply due to the breakdown of two 1000 and 1300 KVA generator sets.

Speaking to the press at the end of the visit to the Xangongo Water Treatment Station (ETA), António Matias, said that if the generators fail, the station will be fed with energy from the hybrid plant in the region.

“We had a meeting with the Cunene Water and Sanitation Company, RODEL and ENDE and everything was agreed that, while the generator sets are being restored, the ETA will receive energy from the plant, aiming to produce water in quantity”, he stated.

ENDE’s spokesperson in Cunene, Luís Capitango, said that through the hybrid plant they will supply 80 percent of energy to ETA, from midnight to 6 am, to fill the tanks at Xangongo, Môngua and Ondjiva.

In turn, the administrator for the financial area of the Cunene Water and Sanitation Company, Viridiana José, said that at this time they are producing only six thousand cubic meters of water per day, which does not satisfy the usual consumption of citizens in Ondjiva , Môngua Bulunganga, Anyanca, Namacunde, Santa-Clara and Humbe.

Cunene has a Water Treatment Station (WTP), located in the municipality of Ombadja, with the capacity to pump 24 million liters of drinking water per day, and has a distribution pipeline of 182,780 kilometers.

The Cunene Water and Sanitation Company has 14 thousand 907 household connections made, but the three thousand 922 customers avoid paying for consumption.

Currently, the company has 10,985 customers in the cities of Ondjiva, Calueque, Xangongo, Humbe, Môngua, Santa Clara, Namacunde and Cahama.
