Africa-Press – Angola. The Government of Luanda is installing community kitchens in all municipalities in the province, similar to what is already happening in Cacuaco, where three to five thousand vulnerable families assist, as part of the fight against poverty.
The provincial governor, Manuel Homem, announced the fact recently in the Maye Maye neighborhood, urban district of Sequele, before the launch of the “April of Peace, Love and Forgiveness – More Angola, More Citizenship” campaign.
On the occasion, various food items and utensils were delivered to the local community kitchen and to three female entrepreneurs from the community.
According to Manuel Homem, the kitchens in question are strategically installed near schools, to allow them to not only support the School Meal Program, but also the populations in general.
In the Maye Maye space, 60 people of all ages are served daily, in a “successful” experience by the local Municipal Administration, he said.
Manuel Homem explained that, with this project, the Government of the Province of Luanda is testing a Social Assistance Program, based on communities, with the municipality of Cacuaco as its first experience.
This type of initiatives, he emphasized, is currently being replicated in other municipalities in Luanda, with the aim of extending the State’s social assistance.
He invited all civil society organizations to join these Provincial Government initiatives, through donations of various goods.
