Africa-Press – Angola. The vice-governor for the Technical and Infrastructure sphere of Moxico, Wilson Augusto, said, this Tuesday, that the Government will soon begin intervention and containment work on ravines in three municipalities in the province.

This involves containing the ravines located in the municipalities of Moxico (headquarters), Luau and Camanongue, with a view to restoring security and

tranquility to the population.

Speaking to the press, at the end of fieldwork he carried out in the city of Luena, he said that in recent times only seven of the more than 30 ravines cataloged in the province have been intervened, with emphasis on those in neighborhoods such as Aço, Caminina and Zorró that threatened destroy several of the population’s homes.

In this sense, he informed that in the next few days the act of consigning the drainage of the ravine in the Mãe Preta neighborhood, on the outskirts of Luena, which is currently endangering residences and social infrastructures, could take place.

He added that the containment work will continue to take place gradually, highlighting Alto Luena, and the municipalities of Luau and Camanongue, regions that remain of greatest concern, according to the leader, since the ravines threaten to destroy electricity transport poles and other social and economic infrastructure.

Moxico has close to one million inhabitants, according to projections by the National Statistics Institute (INE), during the 2014 Population Census.
