Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, announced, this Monday, the recovery, throughout the current year, of Real Estate valued at one thousand seven hundred million US dollars (1,700,000,000.00), within the scope of the Fight against corruption.
In his Message on the State of the Nation, on the occasion of the Opening of the 2023-2024 Parliamentary Year of the V Legislature, the Angolan Head of State reiterated that the fight against corruption and the process of recovering State assets remain at the top of the country’s agenda .
He added that 267 cases and 122 investigations were opened to investigate signs of economic and financial crimes, of which 109 cases were filed in the courts of common jurisdiction, 51 of which in the Supreme Court.
As for shareholdings in companies, the data points to around USD 800,000,000.00 (eight hundred million US dollars) and financial resources in the amount of USD 133,309,366.00 (one hundred and thirty-three million, three hundred and nine thousand , three hundred and sixty-six US dollars).
Also this year, real estate, shareholdings and monetary values were seized and/or arrested in Angola and abroad, valued at around USD 1,000,000,000.00 (one billion US dollars).
According to official data, Angola has recovered, to date, 7.6 billion USD, as part of the process to combat corruption and recover assets.
Part of this money was used in the Municipal Investment and Intervention Program (PIIM), in the construction of schools and other infrastructure.
However, there are more than 12 billion dollars seized, that is, in seized condition.
