Governor calls for deep reflection on the gains of independence

Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of the province of Huambo, Lotti Nolika, Sunday, urged workers and union representatives, in particular, to reflect deeply on the conquests achieved over the 47 years of National Independence.

In a message of exhortation that arrived, on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, which is celebrated this Monday (01/05), the minister considers that there have been countless achievements, despite the constraints that prevented the materialization, in full, of the desires and plans for growth and development.

Lotti Nolika says that, with the conquest of definitive peace 21 years ago, thousands of daughters and sons of Huambo make work their most sacred duty, giving life to the multiple forms of production in the cities and in the countryside, certain that there is a long way to go in the sense of continuously mitigating the problems faced by the population, with a focus on the need to contribute vigorously to the process of social development conducive to collective well-being.

The exhortation, he added, comes on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, whose celebration dates back to May 1, 1886, when a strike began in the American city of Chicago, with the aim of achieving better working conditions and, mainly, , the reduction of the working day from 17 to 8 hours a day.

“Therefore, I wish a happy Labor Day to all Angolans, in particular, to residents of the province of Huambo, urging an active, peaceful and coherent participation of all productive forces in the programmed activities, for the celebration of the event, in certainty that together we will continue on this path and that the challenges faced by the working class will be progressively overcome”, concluded the official.

In the province of Huambo, located in the Central Plateau of Angola, the celebration of the event will be marked by a parade of nearly six thousand workers, starting at the Doutor António Agostinho Neto square and ending at the Saydi Mingas square, in a route of approximately 600 meters.
