Governor considers PIIM access rate positive

Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of the province of Huambo, Lotti Nolika, considered this Friday the access rate of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM) to be positive, with 188 projects already made available to the population.

The minister made this assessment during the presentation of the memorandum on the social and economic situation of this region of the Central Plateau, in the meeting that the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, held with members of the local Government.

On the occasion, Lotti Nolika said that PIIM in Huambo has 88 percent of physical execution and, approximately, another 80 percent of financial disbursement, which allowed the completion of 188 projects, 187 of which are local and one is ministerial.

Without many details, he said that, currently, 65 percent of the projects in Huambo’s portfolio have been completed, with emphasis on 25 general education schools.

Education and health

He reported that the education sector, with a total of 842 thousand 634 students enrolled, this year, in the general system, lacks 15 thousand teachers, mainly in primary education, despite the fact that, between 2017 and 2023, they were admitted three thousand 607 teachers and, based on the recently opened public competition, another 475 should benefit.

He said that the sector will be able to count, in the coming days, on the reinforcement of 90 soldiers from the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) who are attending the refresher course, in addition to training interns from the Teacher Training School for primary education, from the perspective of supervised pedagogical internship.

Lotti Nolika made it known that the province also lacks at least 23 schools with 24 classrooms for primary education and seven polytechnic institutes.

In the field of higher education, he said that the province has 32 thousand 616 students enrolled, of which only 33 in the public sector, which faces numerous difficulties, with emphasis on the Faculty of Economics, which operates in precarious situations and whose technical diagnoses advise the construction of a more modern infrastructure with better conditions.

Despite this, the governor praised and thanked Presidential Order no 152/23, of July 5th, which will enable the construction of new buildings to accommodate the organic units of the José Eduardo dos Santos University, included in this budget.

Regarding the health sector, he said it was the one that grew the most in recent years, with a total of 272 health units in the public network and another 80 in the private sector, provided by seven thousand 165 professionals, including 495 doctors.

He added that epidemiological indicators point to malaria and acute respiratory diseases as the main pathologies, with the first disease being the most deadly, at a time when, like the education sector, 70 FAA soldiers are being trained to help treating patients in some centers and health posts on the outskirts.

He said that the provincial health system only lacks an ambulance, although five of the 11 municipalities benefited, a few days ago, from similar means, including hospital support vehicles, a process that should cover all municipalities by next March, according to guarantees from the Ministry of guardianship.

Kwenda changes the lives of thousands of people

The governor of Huambo said that the social sector also recorded significant advances, as Kwenda had significant impacts on the lives of 123,825 families from four of the five municipalities selected to benefit from the National Social Protection System Strengthening Program.

The government official requested the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to extend Kwenda to other municipalities in the province of Huambo, as part of strategies to increase the social and productive well-being of vulnerable families.

At the same time, he said, a thousand and 64 zungueira women benefited from financing, in a local initiative, with support from the Brilhante Foundation, within the framework of the “Votoka” project, an expression in the national language Umbundu, which means “Get Up”, with the aim of improving income of this social fringe dedicated to small businesses, but with different difficulties.

He mentioned that in the area of support for social partners, emphasis is placed on the construction project of the Dondi Evangelical Mission University Campus, which began in August 2023, currently with 88 percent of physical execution and another 42 percent of the financial component.

In this perspective, the government official encouraged the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to continue supporting partners and respond to the cry for help from the Catholic Church regarding the need to rehabilitate Quipeio Mission and its Major Seminary, in addition to new infrastructure. for the Courts and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, who work in unpleasant conditions.

Agriculture in the spotlight

Lotti Nolika said that the agricultural sector, mainly family, focused on the production of corn, soybeans, beans, masambala, legumes, vegetables, among other products, recorded satisfactory indicators, which make the province a true powerhouse in the national agricultural sector.

These indicators, according to the governor, require special attention from the Executive in subsidizing fertilizers and seeds, although it is already an ongoing process, but the quantities available do not respond to demand.

He said that the province has available, in the current agricultural year, 918 thousand 698 hectares, with 90 percent associated with the family sector, with the involvement of 264 thousand and 32 families, of which 105 113 assisted by the Agricultural Development Institute (IDA) to provide continuous improvement of results in this sector.

He recalled that within the framework of the support program for ex-military cooperatives, 61 tractors and their respective components were distributed by the Executive to 58 cooperatives, with a total of seven thousand 230 members, of which three thousand and 38 were ex-military members.

The minister also highlighted the significant advances in the energy and water, public works and transport sectors, although, in the latter, she requested intervention at Albano Machado airport.

With a hard-working, happy and hospitable population, the city is completely clean, organized, its green gardens and avenues signposted to avoid embarrassment to motorists and visitors traveling for work or tourism.

Located in the Central Plateau of Angola, with an area of 35,771 square kilometers and a population of over two million, 700 thousand inhabitants, distributed in 11 municipalities, 37 communes and three thousand 387 villages, the province of Huambo has a tropical climate with a temperature average of 20.2 °C.
