Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Lunda Norte, Deolinda Satula Vilarinho, defended this Tuesday the need to strengthen mechanisms to prevent and combat trafficking in human beings, especially in the border provinces.
The government official who was speaking at the opening of the Workshop on “National Reference Mechanisms for Victims of Trafficking in Human Beings”, said that it was necessary to reinforce joint work between defense and security bodies and civil society, highlighting in particular the role of traditional authorities residing along the borders, in this fight.
According to Deolinda Vilarinho, the province of Lunda Norte shares about 770 kilometers of land and river border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a reality that demands from the defense and security bodies, increased vigilance, for the effective fight against illegal immigration , trafficking in human beings, diamonds, among other crimes.
He underlined that the extension of the border, combined with the permanent economic, political and social crisis in the DRC, turns out to be a gateway for immigrants to enter the country, most of whom are illegal and victims of human trafficking, enticed with promises of jobs and better life conditions.
For the official, holding the workshop is of paramount importance for better training of members of public institutions and civil society, in order to provide tools capable of helping to identify possible cases of trafficking in human beings.
“Our wish as an interested party in this matter is that this training results in skills that will allow participants to obtain the skills and knowledge necessary for the continuous improvement of our work as public servants”, he stressed.
On the other hand, he called for the involvement of civil society in promoting the dignity of the human person, so that it can reach the levels of an increasingly fair and participatory society.
The event, promoted by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, aims to find mechanisms to prevent and combat human trafficking in the country, especially along the borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to the program sent this Monday, bodies involved in the administration of justice, MININT professionals, members of the Local Human Rights Committee, technicians for the identification and referral of victims of human trafficking will participate in the event. humans.
