Governor gives ultimatum to PIIM defaulters in Alto Zambezi

Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial governor of Moxico, Ernesto Muangala, gave, this Tuesday, in the town of Cazombo, municipality of Alto Zambeze, an ultimatum to companies not complying with the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM) in that district.

Speaking to the press, as part of a day of work carried out in that municipality, the governor expressed concern about the delay in carrying out the works, demanding that the projects be completed by 2024, under penalty of the companies being subject to civil action. and criminally for breach of contract.

Launched in 2019, the municipality of Alto Zambeze was the region that hosted the launch ceremony of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities across the country.

Four years later, the municipality counts six completed projects out of the 13 registered in the program portfolio, mainly painting the facade of the administrator’s palace, a 150-station public lighting system, a seven-room school and small water systems, equivalent to 50 per physical execution cent.

The projects are valued at 229 million and 444 thousand kwanzas, and so far the companies have benefited from 75 percent of the budget.

“We understand that some works are taking time because of contractors who do not honor or meet deadlines (…)”, said the governor.

The municipality of Alto Zambeze, the largest in the country, has a PIIM portfolio aimed at the energy, water, education, health, basic sanitation and roads sectors.

The region is located east of the city of Luena and has an estimated population of 145,330 inhabitants, according to the projection of the National Statistics Institute (INE) for 2023, distributed in six municipalities, namely Cavungo, Macondo, Caianda, Calunda, Lumbala Caquengue, Lóvua, in addition to Cazombo (headquarters).
