Governor wants young people to be firm in consolidating peace

Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of the province of Cunene, Gerdina Didalelwa, requested this Thursday, in the municipality of Cuvelai, the firmness of young people in the process of consolidating peace, to facilitate the Executive in aligning strategies in favor of the social and economic development of the country.

When speaking at the provincial event for Peace and National Reconciliation Day, Gerdina Didalelwa recognized the decisive role of youth in consolidating and preserving this achievement, aiming for better coexistence and social well-being of Angolans.

He said that before April 4, 2002, the country experienced difficult times and great intimidation that forced Angolan families to move from one point to another in search of safety to preserve their lives.

He clarified that the achievement of peace brought Angolans together, facilitated the movement of people and goods, brought services closer to the population and increased commercial exchanges, gains that young people should know how to value and preserve.

The minister also pointed out the need for youth to cultivate values that support a healthy environment in society, social integration, respect for national symbols, institutions and leaders.

He highlighted that as a result of peace, the Executive has been designing and implementing a set of actions that are boosting economic growth, with a view to reducing hunger and poverty.

On the other hand, he highlighted the construction of road infrastructures to facilitate the free movement of people and goods and the mass return to agricultural fields, previously considered mined spaces.

“With the end of armed conflicts, Cunene has made great strides in several sectors, with emphasis on the social sector, which in the coming days will gain a new Ondjiva General Hospital, to guarantee quality medical and pharmaceutical assistance to the population”, he highlighted.

He made it known that even with financial difficulties, the government is gradually solving the needs of the population by completing the unfinished Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), Ondjiva centrality, communication routes, among others.

Gerdina Didalelwa also highlighted that the Ndue and Calucuve dam projects are under construction, in the municipality of Cuvelai, as well as those on the right bank of the Cunene river, which have boosted economic and sustainable growth in the province.

On April 4th, the National Day of Peace and Reconciliation is celebrated in Angola, remembering the peace agreement signed in 2002 between the country’s two largest political parties, MPLA and UNITA.

Angola experienced a fratricidal war for many years that devastated a large part of the population, causing serious social and family problems, leaving many consequences in the lives of Angolans.

Cuvelai is one of the six municipalities that make up the province of Cunene, which is 187 kilometers from the city of Ondjiva, the capital.
