Africa-Press – Angola. Following the mandate received at the recent Malabo Summit, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, welcomed yesterday, in Luanda, his counterpart from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, in a meeting to address issues related to the growing tension that takes place between the DRC and Rwanda.

In the context of this meeting, several aspects were discussed that can contribute to the peaceful resolution of the dispute between the two countries and, in this sense, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, at the request of his Angolan counterpart, agreed to release two recently captured Rwandan soldiers.

This diligence aims to contribute to the reduction of tension in the relationship between the two countries (DRC and Rwanda), says the Secretary for Institutional Communication and Press Affairs of the President of the Republic.

Following this morning’s meeting, the Head of State, João Lourenço, held a videoconference conversation this afternoon with Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, during which the same aspects discussed with his counterpart from the DRC were discussed. .

These discussions allowed the two statesmen to reach an understanding on the holding in Luanda, on a date to be announced shortly, of a Summit in which, at the invitation of the Angolan President, the Heads of State of the DRC and Rwanda will participate, in order to take care of all aspects that can help, in a consistent way, to promote the de-escalation of the tension currently prevailing on the border between the two countries and thus contribute to the strengthening of peace in the sub-region.
