Africa-Press – Angola. The Sports Group of Lunda Sul reinstated this Tuesday, the modality of athletics in its group, thus making a total of three, with football and chess.
Grupo Desportivo da Lunda Sul was created in 2020, through a memorandum of understanding between the local government and Catoca.
The athletics modality is composed of two athletes, namely César Muamba and José Mafefe.
In the act of presentation, the president of Desportivo da Lunda Sul, Miguel Ipwupwu, informed that the framing of athletics in his group, arises in that the modality needs support and impulse in the province, to assert itself and compete in the national championships and international.
He underlined that the group is in a process of expansion with the integration of more sports, with emphasis on handball and basketball.
He added that the athletes are currently in the country’s capital (Luanda), in order to participate in the 66th edition of the “São Silvestre” foot race.
In turn, the president of the Provincial Athletics Association, Jone Barnabé, praised the initiative of Desportivo da Lunda Sul in associating another modality in its group, since it was helpless in the district.
“This framework will help to leverage athletics in Lunda Sul, as many young people have been taking part in the sport”, he said.
The province of Lunda Sul has seven athletes in the 66th edition of the pedestrian race “São Silvestre”, of which two from Desportivo da Lunda Sul, and five nominated by the local association of the modality.
