Africa-Press – Angola. The national senior women’s handball team beat Senegal, 22-21, in the Pre-Olympic tournament, in a difficult match in which they were almost always at a disadvantage.
In a match played at Kilamba’s Multiúsos pavilion, in Luanda, for the inaugural round, the Angolan women suffered a 0-4 deficit in the opening minutes, causing discomfort to the spectators in the stands.
In this aspect of spectators, the presence of the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, flanked by other members of the Government, stands out.
Quite nervous and without the luck of the game, the hosts faced an opponent who attacked and defended in a consolidated manner, despite the offensive forays of Azenaide Carlos and Juliana Machado.
Just seven minutes into the second half, the Pearls took the lead for the first time (14-13), but the Senegalese quickly regained the lead, forcing the Angolan coach, Vivaldo Eduardo, to request a time-out.
The serenity in possession of the ball allowed Angola to score the winning goal in the last minute, benefiting from a technical error by the opponents.
The right back, Angolan Azenaide Carlos, was elected the most valuable player (MVP) of the match.
The captain of the national seven, Isabel Guialo, with five goals, was the top scorer of the match, with one more in relation to Azenaide Carlos and Juliana Machado.
