Africa-Press – Angola. The importance of the Portuguese language as a national heritage and a communication tool for improving teacher training practices should deserve special attention from the State regarding its valorization, the Minister of Education acknowledged on Wednesday in Luanda.Luísa Grilo, who was speaking at the International Portuguese Language Congress, highlighted that the meeting served to reflect on the importance of this tool as a common instrument of school life.
The minister said that teaching in Angola, in terms of the Portuguese language, is on the right track, taking into account studies and debates to improve the quality of teaching content.
Luísa Grilo added that one of the ways to coexist with other languages, aiming at their preservation and appreciation, is to speak Portuguese frequently, as an instrument of international communication.
At the request of the governments of countries such as Equatorial Guinea and Ghana, the Ministry of Education already has a specific program for teaching the Portuguese language to teachers and students in both states.
“Equatorial Guinea is part of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries, but as it was colonized by the Spanish, its first official language is Spanish. But as a member of the CPLP, they need to make the transition from Spanish to Portuguese. To do this, we already have the materials to start working with them,” explained the minister.
The minister stressed that in the first phase the program is aimed only at adults, due to the absence of Portuguese language teachers to ensure the teaching and learning process for children.
Luísa Grilo explained that work is being carried out in the field of lexicography, lexicology, terminology, as well as in the media outlets that have received training in this field, in order to prepare the necessary instruments for updating.
The International Portuguese Language Congress, which took place at the Catholic University of Angola (UCAN), had the motto “Portuguese Language as a dynamic space, identity, Culture, development and innovation”, and served to celebrate the 25 years of existence of the academic institution.
