Regarding the World Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, marked May 21 , he said that the region has values, habits and customs, which must be preserved and can stimulate the practice of ethnic tourism and cultural.

In this regard, he said that it is important to value the vast existing cultural heritage, whose characteristics must be respected in order to maintain the essence.

The historian argued the need for the elders to pass the testimony on to the new generations, encouraging them to respect, preserve and care, to guarantee the continuity of this unique cultural mosaic.

“Culture is part of the identity of a people, so it is fundamental to have a greater sharing of experience between generations, to allow the passing on of the legacy to be a normal, constant and permanent process”, he highlighted.

The academic, also underlined that the ethno-linguistic composition of Cunene is one of the richest in the country, with the subgroups Herero Himbas, Muakahonas, Mundimbas, Nhanekas Humbe, Mungambwes, Muhumbi, Muhanda, Ovambos muvales, among others.

He also pointed out the existence of peoples of non-Bantu origin such as the Sans, located in the municipalities of Cuanhama, Namacunde Ombadja and Cuvelai, and Vátuas, located exclusively in the municipality of Curoca.

He clarified that each one has its particularity, ranging from the biological and physical characteristics of its members, clothing, cuisine, type of residences.

He also pointed out the diversity in terms of manifestations of dance and songs in birth ceremonies, female and male initiation, marital union, death, among others.

The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development was established in 2002 by the UN General Assembly in commemoration of the 2001 adoption of the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity .

The UNESCO declaration stipulates that cultural diversity is a common heritage of humanity, whose date aims to cultivate an understanding of the richness and importance of cultural diversity, as well as to encourage respect for others.
