Africa-Press – Angola. The province of Huíla plans to install, in the next few years, a high-performance center in the Nossa Senhora do Monte tourist and sports complex, on the outskirts of the city of Lubango.

This is a project that has already been drawn up and will be submitted to the Central Government for the purposes of studies and future budget adjustment, announced this Tuesday, in Lubango, the governor of Huíla, Nuno Mahapi.

The high-performance center is a sports center, an operating unit that encompasses a specific and diversified set of facilities, sports equipment and multidisciplinary support services. It includes training, research, medicine, physiotherapy, psychology, nutrition, among others.

The purpose of the unit is to improve and optimize sporting performance, providing high-performance practitioners or those who are part of national teams with the appropriate conditions for sports preparation and performance optimization.

Its mission is to give priority to the needs of sports federations and to pursue objectives such as detecting and enhancing sports talent, providing internships, evaluating, controlling and optimizing training, scientific research and monitoring results.

Speaking to the press, at the end of the two-day visit by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Palmira Barbosa, to Huíla, Nuno Mahapi stated that the Nossa Senhora do Monte park, with its already existing facilities, as well as other equipment intended to be built will turn the tourist area into a high-performance centre.

According to the official, the project will be submitted to the central government in the next few days, with a view to applying for the construction of the center and hoping that the Executive can mobilize financial resources for its implementation.

He considered that the province has a “very strong” hotel network, hence the need to take advantage of the existing accommodation infrastructure in the place for the construction of more fields.

Nuno Mahapi stressed that collective and individual sports could also be promoted, at a time when the province has the advantage of being close to Namibia and South Africa, in addition to allowing several teams to train in Huíla.
