Africa-Press – Angola. The Human Milk Bank (BLH) begins to expand its services from Friday, the 5th, with the inauguration of a new room for milk collection at the General Hospital of Luanda, informed this Monday, the coordinator of the institution.

Elisa Gaspar said that the objective is to take this project to all the provinces of the country. “This is a first step in this direction”, he said, adding that the same quality presented in the HMB, in the Lucrécia Paim Maternity, will be installed in the new room. by analysis and quality control. Only after this process can it be given to the General Hospital babies,” she explained.

At a time when Breastfeeding Week has been celebrated since yesterday, whose celebrations run until Friday, the institution’s coordinator considers it essential to create projects such as the HMB, due to their importance in preserving the lives of newborns.

“Awareness must be continuous and has not been stopped, as we have been advising many women to go to the Lucrécia Paim Maternity Hospital to contact the HMB to make a donation, because for babies breast milk is life” he appealed.

The director of Maternity Lucrécia Paim, Lígia Alves, said that Breastfeeding Week is celebrated in 120 countries, with the aim of making people aware of the importance of breast milk.

The benefits of breast milk, he said, are essential for babies, having therefore recognized the role of the HMB. “It is a way to encourage breastfeeding, through a specialized service, created with the aim of helping premature babies admitted to the neonatology service, or with low birth weight”, he said, in addition to praising the importance for communities.

The sub-inspector of the Civil Protection and Fire Service, Maria Matende, one of the breast milk donors for almost a year, was distinguished yesterday, with the title of “muse of the bank”, for the number of donations, during the opening act of Breastfeeding Week celebrations.

The firefighter said that she accepted the cause after a visit to the HMB, at the end of which she was moved to see children in need of milk. “As I was breastfeeding, I embraced the cause”.
