Africa-Press – Angola. The director of services at the National Statistics Institute in the province of Huambo, Ruben Gomes, assured, this Thursday, that duplication of counts will be avoided for the accuracy of population data during the 2024 Census.
The person in charge was speaking at a press conference to clarify the preparations for the General Population and Housing Census, scheduled to begin on July 19th.
Ruben Gomes explained that citizens with more than two households will only be counted in a single nucleus, to prevent double counting of people with different residences, for the accuracy of statistical data and to reduce the margin of error.
He highlighted that the immediate heads of families will be counted, for example, the mother or the first child, if the father has more than two wives, thus avoiding the quantification and repetition of data from the same person.
He said that the 2024 Census will be developed in a digital format to facilitate the timely collection of population and housing data, in order to make assertive projections that will cover the majority of the Angolan population, with the reduction of regional asymmetries in terms of social and economic investments of communities.
He recalled that the process will be marked by the introduction of new modern technologies and intelligent IT resources for the execution of the 2024 Census.
He assured that the logistical conditions and human resources will soon be consolidated, at a time when the central structures are engaged in this preparatory process, which also includes the technical training of supervisors, census takers, the journalistic class and civil society.
The organizational process for the 2024 Census currently continues with the recruitment of supervisors, census takers and technical staff via online, who will be trained before the start of the population and housing data collection program.
In the province of Huambo, with an estimated population of two million, 830 thousand and 415 inhabitants, distributed across 11 municipalities, the recruitment of seven thousand 360 supervisors, census takers and technical staff is planned.
