Africa-Press – Angola. The lack of garbage containers and human resources, for the thorough cleaning of Saurimo, Lunda Sul, has led citizens to deposit solid waste in inappropriate spaces, revealed Friday, its administrator, Adérito Cahanga.
Approached by press, on the subject, the official was concerned and recognized the need to acquire more containers and means of transport, 50 garbage dump boats, to be placed in safe places on the outskirts, where there are only a few similar equipment, funded by the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM).
Regarding solid waste collection companies, he said that he would soon hold a meeting with them, in order to find a plausible solution, to keep the city of Saurimo clean.
Adérito Cahanga made it known that a specific directive defines, for suburban areas, garbage collection points have been defined, while in urban areas there are meshes or corridors, where the containers should be located from one end of the street to the other.
He appealed to citizens to collaborate in the cleaning campaigns, which aim to improve basic sanitation in the city and the maintenance and conservation of the environment, as well as to deposit garbage in containers and at the proper times, to facilitate its removal.
Currently, the municipality of Saurimo has only three solid waste collection companies, a very insufficient number to collect and deposit the approximately 30 cubic meters of waste produced daily.
Saurimo with 534 thousand 231 inhabitants, has three communes: Saurimo, Mona Quimbundo and Sombo.
