Inter and D`Agosto play "Unitel Basket" classic

Africa-Press – Angola. Interclube and 1o de Agosto play on November 17th, in the opening of the National Senior Men’s Basketball Championship, in the first classic of the biggest competition in the sport in Angola “Unitel Basket”.

The draw for the 46th National Basketball Championship, held on Saturday, in the province of Benguela, also dictated the challenge between Petro de Luanda (defending champion) – Casa do Pessoal do Porto do Lobito.

Still on this journey, the Akira Academy team plays with Interclube B, Vila Clotilde faces Friends of Benguela, while JC Basketebol faces Desportivo Kwanza.

Luanda’s Oetrov rests, for calendar reasons.

At the ceremony, held in the CPPL pavilion, it was noted the absence of 1.o de Agosto B and Clube Desportivo ASA, for administrative reasons.

During his intervention, the competition director, Tony Sofrimento, announced some changes that have already been gradually introduced, with emphasis on the evolution to a professional club league.

“We expect the clubs to collaborate so that they have people with management and sports organization skills,” he stated.

Tony Sofrinento also spoke about the mandatory contracts between clubs and athletes, to avoid the various inconveniences that are currently occurring.

Among the changes is the gradual elimination of clubs’ B teams.

The official opening of the 2023/24 sporting season takes place on November 11th, National Independence Day, in the province of Namibe, with the Super Cup dispute between Petro de Luanda and Interclube.

The National Championship games will be played in the provinces of Luanda and Benguela.
