The creation of the Angolan Football League has been considered for more than five years, following which the ANCAF was created, whose members took office in 2022, led by Alves Simões, former president of Interclube.

The need for a new model of autonomous national competition stems from the need to make football profitable in the country, only possible, according to specialists, with well-endowed clubs financially and with sporting quality.

Initially, the League could count on ten clubs, with emphasis on Interclube, Petro de Luanda, 1.o de Agosto, Sagrada Esperança, Bravos do Maquis, Wiliete de Benguela, Académica do Lobito and Recreativo do Libolo.
