Africa-Press – Angola. The creation of the Jonas Malheiro Savimbi foundation dominated the meeting between the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, and the former leader of UNITA, Isaías Samakuva.
Speaking to the press this Thursday, at the end of the hearing, Isaías Samakuva stated that Jonas Savimbi’s family is creating the foundation and UNITA is interested in the project.
He informed that he was chosen to lead the process, which started a year ago, depending only on the legislation.
Jonas Savimbi was the founding leader of UNITA in 1966. He died in 2002.
UNITA currently has 90 deputies in the National Assembly.
Isaías Samakuva also informed that he had evaluated with the President of the Republic the socio-economic situation of the country.
“As a 77-year-old citizen and at the service of the country, we had to present the difficulties resulting from the country’s situation”, he said.
