Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan Head of State João Lourenço congratulated on Wednesday (21) Youeri Kaguta Museveni, on his re-election as President of the Republic of Uganda.
In the message, released by the Presidency of the Republic, João Lourenço states that he believes that the re-election of Youeri Museveni to the highest office of the Ugandan nation “will be crucial for Uganda to continue to play a relevant role in promoting peace, stability, security and integration at the regional and continental levels.”
President João Lourenço hopes that the two countries will continue to maintain the constructive dialogue that has been established between Luanda and Kampala, “with a view to strengthening and reinforcing existing ties of friendship and cooperation.”
According to official results, Yoweri Museveni was re-elected for another five-year term after being declared the winner of Thursday’s (15) presidential elections, winning 71.65% of the vote.
The two countries have high-level contacts in the Great Lakes Region on issues such as peace, stability, and security in the region.
Angola and Uganda also maintain dialogue in regional and international forums such as the African Union and the United Nations, as well as exchanges of visits by different delegations to strengthen cooperation in several areas, including security, infrastructure, and trade.
