João Lourenço invites the president of the TC to resign

Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, invited the president of the Court of Auditors (TC), Exalgina Gambôa, to resign from her mandate, as she no longer had the conditions to carry out her duties.

In a note sent, the Press Secretary of the Presidential Palace does not specify the type of occurrences that President João Lourenço considers likely to compromise the normal functioning of the Court of Auditors, in particular, and of the judiciary, in general.

He adds that the invitation from the Angolan Head of State for the judge’s resignation was made on the 21st of the current month, “which has not happened to date”.

He informs that the request for resignation made by President João Lourenço to the judge is based on paragraph 5 of article 108 of the Constitution of the Republic of Angola and aims to “promote and guarantee the regular functioning of the organs of the State”.

The objective of the TC is to supervise the legality of the financial and administrative management acts of the State and other public and private institutions that the Law determines, in order to ensure the adequate application of public resources for the benefit of the Angolan citizen.

Exalgina Gambôa took office in June 2018. She has previously been, among other duties, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
