Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, paid tribute this Tuesday to the former President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, laying a wreath of flowers in the tomb of the former Angolan Statesman.

The act, which took place at Praça da República, in Luanda, is part of the celebrations of the 21st anniversary of Peace and National Reconciliation, which are celebrated yesterday, as a result of the Luena Memorandum of Understanding, which put an end to the war in Angola.

President João Lourenço was accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, and members of his Cabinet.

The Vice President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, was also among the entities that paid homage to the former President of the Republic.

Known as the “Architect of Peace”, José Eduardo dos Santos was President of the Republic of Angola from 21 September 1979 to 26 September 2017.


José Eduardo dos Santos died in Barcelona, ​​Spain, on July 8, 2022, due to illness, at the age of 79.
