Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, spoke Thursday by telephone with the President of the Sovereign Council of Sudan, general Abdel Fatah Al-Burhan, in order to address the prevailing situation in this country, for which he defends a stop fire.
According to a note published on the Presidency of the Republic page on the Facebook social network, from London, where he is on an official visit, João Lourenço expressed Angola’s solidarity with the Sudanese people and regretted the consequences of the conflict.
This conflict results in the loss of thousands of human lives, the large-scale destruction of infrastructure, as well as thousands of internally displaced persons and refugees.
The Head of State encouraged the disputing parties to advance towards a ceasefire, defending dialogue as the only way to resolve conflicts.
In the same phone call, the Angolan leader welcomed the initiative of President Salva Kiir, of South Sudan, aimed at dialogue between General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and General Mohamed Hamdani Dagalo, who until the outbreak of the conflict assumed the functions of Deputy President of the Sovereign Council.
