Africa-Press – Angola. The Russian ambassador to Angola said this Thursday that the Angolan President, João Lourenço, will visit his country later this year and, without giving dates, assured that both countries have a “very close cooperation based on brotherhood”.
Without specifying dates, Vladimir Tararov assured that João Lourenço’s visit to Russia should take place during this year and has already been confirmed through diplomatic channels, signaling the “highest political level of cooperation” between Luanda and Moscow.
“There is very close cooperation between our countries, which is based on brotherhood first and foremost, because we were also here, we left our blood here in the sacred land of Angola and we are already brothers,” said the ambassador when asked about the alleged distancing of the Government of João Lourenço from the Russian Federation.
Vladimir Tararov considered that the fraternal relationship between Angola and Russia “gives a great boost to bilateral cooperation at all levels, including at the highest political level”. “We are expecting President João Lourenço to visit Russia this year. This visit has already been confirmed between both parties, but I will not say the dates”, the diplomat responded to Lusa.
On the sidelines of the International Conference on the Role of Frontline Countries in the Total Liberation of Southern Africa, Vladimir Tararov said that the Russian embassy in Angola has been expanded with the presence of advisors linked to agriculture, to strengthen cooperation in this area. “We have advisors dedicated to developing our cooperation in the areas of agriculture, economy, technologies and other sectors of cooperation,” he stressed.
The support of Russia, the former Soviet Union, in the liberation of Southern Africa, and especially Angola, was one of the topics addressed at this international conference, promoted in Luanda by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication of Angola.
Asked whether there are prospects for strengthening military cooperation between Angola and Russia, Tararov said only that the most developed area of cooperation between the two countries was and is training in the military field, recalling that more than 27 Angolan generals passed through Russian military academies.
“And that is why they have and possess all the technologies and mechanisms for defense, construction and management of the Angolan Armed Forces, in their different branches, which is why these mechanisms [of cooperation] existed, exist and it seems to me that they will be well developed”, he concluded.
Former President of Mozambique Joaquim Chissano, Angolan General António dos Santos França “Ndalu”, former Chief of Staff of the defunct People’s Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola (FAPLA), and Cuban General Leopoldo Cintra Frias were some of the speakers at this conference.
