Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and Zambia will intensify joint actions to control and monitor the flow of activities along the common territorial area, to deal with the increase in cases of border violation, arms and fuel trafficking, integrated into the operational platform as the largest concerns.
The two governments reached this decision at the end of the 32nd meeting of the Joint Defense and Security Commission, and guided, for the fulfillment of joint actions, the creation of a working group, between June and September of this year, with the mission of carrying out an inspection operation in the North region, within the scope of the triple border (Angola, Zambia and DRC), and, later, in the regions of Jimbi and Shangombo, concerning the borders of Angola and Zambia.
The high-level meeting, which ended on Friday in Lusaka, drew, in perspective, a broad picture of the security situation in the Austral region. In this regard, the Minister of National Defense and Homeland Veterans, Ernesto dos Santos “Liberdade”, for Angola, and his counterpart Ambrosi Lwiji Lufana, for Zambia, who headed their respective delegations, reiterated their Governments’ commitment to support efforts to peace in the DRC and Mozambique, through the deployment of forces and the availability of defense material.
The Angola-Zambia Joint Defense and Security Commission also appreciated the degree of decision taken at the last meeting held in Luanda, between the 4th and 6th of November 2019. The press release to which Jornal de Angola had access, states , in this regard, advances in cooperation in the formation of cadres, as well as the prevailing stability along the common border.
