Africa-Press – Angola. The National Statistics Institute (INE) has, since last week, a new director-general, in this case, economist José Calengi, replacing Chaney John, who was dismissed at the end of January by the Minister of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João.

According to a note published on the institution’s website, in the same order, Hernany Pena Luís and Anália Prata were appointed, respectively, to the positions of deputy directors of the Social and Demographic, as well as Economic and Financial departments.

The note also notes that the new directorate of INE expresses its total availability to continue strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation, in addition to continuing to participate in the enhancement of national, regional and global statistics.

Until the date of his appointment, José dos Santos Francisco Calengi was head of the Department of National Accounts and Statistical Coordination at INE. In turn, Chaney Rosa John had been appointed in 2020, replacing Camilo Ceita, who ran the institute for nine years.

INE is a public institution, which enjoys autonomy and legal, technical, administrative and financial capacity, with the mission of promoting, coordinating, collecting, processing and disseminating official national statistical information, in the light of article 18 of the National Statistical System Law. (SEN).

The National Institute of Statistics is supervised by the ministerial department of the Executive responsible for programming and development management, currently represented by the Ministry of Economy and Planning.
