Africa-Press – Angola. A group of 100 peasant families from the Khoisan and Bantu ethnic groups, from the Mbundo locality, in the municipality of Caiundo, Cubango province, will benefit from technical assistance, agricultural inputs and training on financial education, as part of the implementation of the “Epandiquisso” project. The project, which will be promoted by the Associação Juventude Unida para o Desenvolvimento Sadio e Sociocultural (AJUDSS), aims to benefit 80 families in terms of environmental, reproductive, food, nutritional and financial education, as well as 20 families in terms of technical assistance and support with agricultural resources.

Financial support

The head of AJUDSS, Alberto Viajem Chivala, told that the “Epandiquisso” project was financed by the British Embassy to the tune of over 11 million kwanzas.

Alberto Viajem Chivala said that the project will be implemented over a period of six months and that they are currently working on selecting the families that will benefit from it and also on preparing agricultural fields along the banks of the Cuebe River where the beneficiaries will cultivate.

The 20 families will benefit from vegetable and cereal cultivation techniques, through field schools, 12 of which are from the Khoisan ethnic group and eight from the Bantu community.

Greater support

The administrator of the Caiundo municipality, Manuel Mora Jamba, guaranteed that he will provide all the necessary support so that this project can achieve the desired results, in order to improve the living conditions of the Khoisan and Bantu families.

He said that the local administration has been supporting the Khoisan community with animal-drawn ploughs, cattle, seeds, fertilizers and hoes, so that they can produce their own food and stop depending on donations and the nomadic lifestyle.

Manuel Mora Jamba said that 74 Khoisan families are controlled in Caiundo in the neighborhoods of Kavanga, Mbundo, Vutchina Novo, Capata, Ntopa, Tchatuíca, Canhanga, Mulemba and Ntandawé, but because of the precarious conditions in which they find themselves, the number has been reducing significantly.
