Kimamuenho dominates Labor Day GP

Africa-Press – Angola. Mário Miguel and Domingas Daniel, both from the Kimamuenho teaching profession, were the winners of the athletics event held, Monday, in Caxito, Bengo province, to celebrate International Workers’ Day (May 1).

In men’s, Mário Miguel completed the five kilometers in 13 minutes and 33 seconds, followed by João de Azevedo from Liceu 379 (14min09) and Lopes Costa from the Kimamuenho teaching (14min16).

Speaking to the press, Mário Miguel said it was the first time he had participated in a competition of this kind and the fact that he was a student of the physical education course gave him the necessary preparation to win.

The winner of the female class, Domingas Daniel, clocked 18min01 and pointed to constant training as the key to winning the race.

In second place Teresa Kibaxe, from the Kimamuenho school, clocked 23min47 and closing the podium was Estefânia Adriano (Polytechnic Institute) with a time of 25 minutes and 39 seconds.

The president of the Provincial Athletics Association of Bengo, Domingos Caxiala, praised the competitive level of the 103 participants, of which seven were female, and stressed that the competition had mostly students and workers from the province.

Athletics is one of the sports that stands out the most in the province of Bengo with regular competitions and participation in national competitions.

The Escape to Endurance athletic half-marathon is the second biggest athletics event in the country, held on the 4th of February. It has already taken 11 editions, with the intention of the Government of Bengo to internationalize it, in order to project the province, with numerous tourist sites, inside and outside the country.
