Africa-Press – Angola. The King of Huambo, Artur Moço, praised, this Wednesday, the Executive’s commitment to maintaining peace and national reconciliation, based on raising the patriotic spirit of Angolans.
In statements, regarding the 24th anniversary of Peace and National Reconciliation, which is celebrated on the 4th of this month, under the motto “For the economic development and well-being of Angolans, together hand in hand”, he said that the Executive has done a great job, not only in guaranteeing social stability, but also in promoting progress in all areas.
He indicated the efforts related to the protection of communities and the annulment of any attempt at political instability, to promote the improvement of the population’s living conditions and the fostering of social and economic well-being.
“It is with peace that we can promote the socio-economic development of communities”, he stressed.
Therefore, he recommended that the population actively participate in the preservation of public heritage and in combating the vandalism of public property.
According to the sovereign, without tranquility, development is nonexistent, hence the need for everyone to safeguard social stability, so that projects in the areas of health, education, agriculture, energy and water, agriculture, commerce, among others, can continue to be carried out.
He said that peace has brought greater circulation of people and goods, expansion of the communication system and closer access to social services for the population, which has allowed some communes, in the particular case of Huambo province, to be elevated to the category of municipalities, such as Alto-Hama, Bimbe, Chilata, Cuima, Galanga and Sambo, in light of the new Political-Administrative Division of the country.
The Day of Peace and National Reconciliation in Angola is celebrated annually on April 4th, a national holiday that marks the end of the civil war in 2002.
The date celebrates the signing of the peace agreements between the Government and UNITA.
