Africa-Press – Angola. The Local Development Institute (FAS) intends to increase the number of household registrations nationwide, during the second phase of the program to strengthen social protection, called “Kwenda”.

Speaking to the press, the General Director of the Local Development Institute-FAS, Belarmino Jelembi, who was speaking about the public consultation held this Thursday in Luanda, without providing the desired data, explained that during the first phase, close to of 1,600,000 (one million and 600 thousand) households.

According to the director, who did not give dates for the implementation of the program, there are already significant advances so that the registration system, in urban areas, is consistent and safe.

He also considered that the analysis of the institutionalization of the Kwenda program is underway, as a public policy with budgetary and programmatic forecasts, both in the country’s planning instruments, as well as in the General State Budget.

He clarified that the process will follow several phases, including consultation with Non-Governmental Organizations, researchers, civil society, as well as beneficiary families for better effectiveness and complementarity.

“An impact assessment has practically been completed, the results of which will be published and used in this public consultation,” he said.

According to Belarmino Jelembi, the second phase of the program will focus on human capital, that is, training, working with children, topics on nutrition and young women.

He highlighted that families have received quarterly payments of 33 thousand kwanzas, a value that could change at this stage.

For the representative of the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women (MASFAMU), Margarida Leite, it is expected that during this period, the work will be carried out in a multisectoral manner and that each institution will intervene according to its responsibilities.

Kwenda is an Angolan Government program that aims to support families in situations of poverty or vulnerability.

Valued at USD 420 million, the initiative is financed at USD 320 million by the World Bank, with the other USD 100 million coming from the National Treasury.

Kwenda covers four components: Social Monetary Transfers, Productive Inclusion, Municipalization of Social Action and, finally, the reinforcement of the Single Social Registry.
