Africa-Press – Angola. The American company Lobito Atlantic Railway (LAR), which has been operating in the mineral transport market from the DRC to Angola for a year, will transport 700,000 tonnes of minerals to markets in America, Asia and Europe over the next three years. Speaking to the press, LAR’s operations director, Nicolas Gregoire, stated that the company aims to achieve the profitability required to sustain its investments.
Nicolas assured that investments are being made in the human resources sector, through recruitment, for the areas of train drivers and drivers, with the aim of increasing the number of trains and stations in order to provide for the increased volume of cargo.According to the manager, an investment of around 800 million dollars from American shareholders is estimated. Since the start of operations in January 2024, LAR has already transported 125 tons of minerals, including copper and sulfur, from the DRC to the Port of Lobito.
The company, which employs 800 workers, expects to increase the level of mineral transportation to 40 tons over the next three years.
