Legal assistance in Bié grows considerably

Africa-Press – Angola. Legal assistance in Bié has been growing considerably, three years later, since the provincial council was implemented in this central/southern region of the country, said the president of the Angolan Bar Association (OAA), Luís Paulo Monteiro .

From January to this date alone, the OAA provincial council has already provided 350 legal assistance services, 200 more compared to the previous year.

Speaking this Thursday, in the city of Cuito, at the ceremony to hand over new ballots to local lawyers, Luís Paulo Monteiro said that law is done with love, which is why this free assistance gap was opened, within the scope of social responsibility from class.

For the president, this achievement represents the quality that the OAA has been achieving day by day throughout the country, judging by the concern that these defenders of justice have for those most in need.

The president of the provincial council in Bié, António Buta Venâncio, informed that citizens in conflict with the law in seven municipalities benefited from legal assistance, with the exception of Camacupa and Chinguar.

At the level of this province there are 14 law offices, where they regularly go to ask for assistance, whether prisoners or other citizens without financial capacity.

In July this year, this council launched, in the municipality of Andulo, the program called “Lawyer’s Duty”, which aims to guarantee legal assistance to local citizens who are unable to become a lawyer, due to financial incapacity.

The project also covers the town of Nhârea, provided by seven lawyers, who will monitor the interrogations of citizens in conflict with the law before the Guarantee judge or the Public Prosecutor’s Office magistrate.

The plan, which already operates in the capital (Cuito), will expand, later this year, in the municipalities of Camacupa, Chinguar and Chitembo, as they have District Courts or General Competence Rooms.

At the event, witnessed by the vice-governor of Bié for political, economic and social matters, Alcida de Jesus Camatele Sandumbo, 42 new ballots were awarded, four of which were final.

In total, the council in Bié now controls 59 lawyers with final certificates and 73 interns.

The province of Bié, Central Angola, has approximately two million inhabitants.
