Africa-Press – Angola. As part of the commemorative days of the centenary of Agostinho Neto, the Command of the Central Military Region held, yesterday, a lecture with the troops in a parade of honors, to salute the journey of the National Hero and first President of the Republic of Angola and Commander-in- Head of the Angolan Armed Forces.

The meeting was guided by the deputy commander of the Central Military Region, Brigadier António Ribeiro, who praised the figure of Agostinho Neto as a courageous revolutionary militant and outstanding statesman, whose wisdom is not limited to the borders of Angola, projecting himself in the African and world context. .

According to the FAA’s high ranking officers, Neto’s ideas and practices have always been objects of admiration and respect, while his example serves as an impetus for the struggle of peoples who in the world are still subjected to humiliation, obscurantism, exploitation and the new conflicts.

“President Agostinho Neto considered of vital importance for the progress of humanity and, above all, at the African level, the establishment of a new international economic order and particularly regional and continental cooperation in Africa, which he considered as a secure platform for the maintenance of of fair economic relations with industrialized countries”, he said.

Brigadier António Ribeiro said that Agostinho Neto was also an enlightened man of culture and that he was the living expression of the aspirations of the oppressed, a weapon for denouncing the oppressors, an instrument for the reconstruction of a new life.

“In Angola, the election of Agostinho Neto as President of the Union of Angolan Writers, whose proclamation he signed, reflects the just admiration of men of letters for their most outstanding founding member”, he stressed.

The deputy commander of the Central Military Region mentioned that President Agostinho Neto, until the time of his physical death on September 10, 1979, due to illness, was tireless in his personal participation in solving the population’s problems, having left the motto: “The most important is to solve the people’s problems”.

“His thinking, convictions and political action decisively marked the history of Angola, before and after Independence. Agostinho Neto belongs to the group of those who, in the middle of the cold war, made history in the hot period of the anti-colonial liberation struggles in Africa” , remembered.

He considered that the example of Agostinho Neto’s life and work and the historical dimension of his ideas should continue to illuminate the path that Angola chose to follow in the consolidation of peace, reconstruction and national reconciliation, as well as development and social progress. The high ranking of the Central Military Region highlighted the strengthening of national unity, which constitutes a premise and a factor inextricably linked to Independence and peace, indispensable for the promotion of development at satisfactory and necessary levels for national reconstruction and the well-being of all angolans.

Before the lecture, the second commander of the Centro Militar Region laid a wreath at the grave of an unknown soldier.
