Africa-Press – Angola. Offshore oil operations, in Block 0 of the shallow waters of the Cabinda sea, increased with the start-up of the Lifua A platform, which will allow the production of 1,200 barrels of crude oil per day.
Built about a year and a half ago by Angolan technicians, from its conception, design, construction and installation offshore, from the Malongo oil field, the Lifua A platform has the capacity for 10 wells, six producers and four injectors.
According to the director of operations at Chevron, Gabriel Ivaba, during the visit that the governor of Cabinda province, Mara Quiosa, made to that American multinational, which took place recently, the project is an asset, both for strengthening sources of revenue for the country, as well as for the oil industry, as it was a project conceived by Angolan technicians.
The person in charge informed that it is the intention of the company Chevron to implement identical projects, creating the Lifua B and C platforms, to boost local content.
According to the report, the Lifua A platform is the first in the field developed with the application of the standardized manufacturing model, with the aim of developing new fields at a lower cost, faster and more economically, using the capacity surplus available from CABGOC’s existing infrastructure.
Strengthen relationships
The provincial governor, Mara Quiosa, considered the visit to the Malongo oil field to be very important, as it reinforces the “existing good relations” between the provincial government and Chevron, as the multinational makes “a valuable contribution” to the country of in general, and Cabinda in particular.
Mara Quiosa was also satisfied with the project developed by Angolan technicians, as well as the number of jobs provided by the company, as 90 percent of workers in the oil field are nationals.
The governor called on fishermen who work along the province’s coast to respect the security perimeter of oil platforms to avoid incidents at sea.
Block 0, where the Lifua A platform is installed, is located about 30 miles from the coast of Cabinda.
A total of four concessionaires operate in Block 0, namely Cabinda Gulf Oil Company, a subsidiary of Chevron, Sonangol EP, Total Petroleum Angola Limited and ENI Angola Production BV. Chevron is the second largest concessionaire in Block 0 after Sonangol EP.
